Kganya Yabatho means "Light of the People." We are a grassroots community organisation based in South Africa.
Our mission is to fight poverty and hunger through community-based programmes that address immediate needs while building long-term resilience. We believe every person deserves access to food, care, skills, and opportunity.
We envision thriving, self-sufficient communities where every person has the resources, skills, and support systems needed to live with dignity. A world where hunger is the exception, not the norm.
"We believe in the inherent potential of human beings. Therefore, we ensure the effective delivery of health, nutrition, education and social services as vehicles of social change.
The majority of the children in our community are orphaned and vulnerable, living in single-parent-headed, grandparent-headed or child-headed households. That is why our community development approach aims to address such historical imbalances — through collective empowerment, facilitating processes that help the poor, vulnerable and marginalized to regain control over their lives."

The principles that guide everything we do.
Every person who walks through our doors is treated with dignity and respect — not as a recipient, but as a neighbour.
We are of the community, not just serving it. Our volunteers, staff, and beneficiaries are neighbours helping neighbours.
From community gardens to skills training, we invest in long-term solutions that reduce dependency and build capacity.
Poverty is a circumstance, not an identity. We ensure every initiative reflects the worth of the people we serve.
"Kganya Yabatho was born from a simple realisation: hunger does not wait for government programmes."
Founded by community members who saw neighbours struggling, we started with what we had — hands, time, and heart. Today, our programmes touch hundreds of lives each month through food distributions, elder care visits, vegetable gardens, women's skills workshops, education support, and youth learnerships.
